Rope works at Open Purjevintti event

At our March Open Purjevintti -event, we got hands-on with the wonderful world of ropes. The evening was packed with fascinating insights into rope history, materials, and techniques, which are guaranteed to come in handy long after the workshop wrapped up.
Our guides for the day were three seasoned rope enthusiasts: Ulrika and Hessu from Österstjernan tall ship from Loviisa, and our own Linnea from HPP.
We kicked things off with a deep dive into the history of ropes, exploring different types and materials, and even got to try spinning rope from natural fibre using a rope winch. From there, we moved on to hands-on practice, learning some of the most useful basic techniques in rope work. And by the end of the day, participants had covered Lyra's plastic fenders with rope and crafted their very own rope pan coasters to take home.
A huge thank you to our organisers, teachers, and everyone who joined us, it was a fantastic day!
Missed this one? No worries, we'll be running more nautical craft workshops in the future. Become a member and join us for the next one! ⚓️
